My Growth Path · Hero Investment

Practical choices for free and budget-conscious players — based on recurring community advice, not a universal hero tier list.

Save or postpone

These are decision rules, not automatic combat-stat calculations. Stars, exclusive gear, skills and the live kingdom roster can change the answer.

🎡 Available gems for roulette

A 120-spin roulette target is often discussed (~162k gems at commonly cited pricing). Check live wheel prices and milestone rewards. If you cannot afford it, saving is a valid path.

⚖️ Debated in the community

Petra now vs saving for Gen 4 is genuinely disputed. Your cavalry strength, gems and widget access determine which path fits.

02 · Rally joiner — one correct skill beats inflated PowerOpen playbook ↓

For a rally JOINER, the first hero slot is not cosmetic: its first Expedition skill may occupy one of the rally's limited extra-skill slots. In an alliance with stronger captains, this is a high-impact, low-cost role.

What to do

  1. Choose a first-slot supporter based on the rally's purpose: Chenko and Yeonwoo are commonly used for Lethality; Amane for Attack. Check the skill description in your client.
  2. Prioritize that hero's first Expedition skill (upper-right in common guides). Many groups aim for skill level 5 if resources permit; confirm your personal skill and star requirements.
  3. Heroes in slots 2 and 3 are mainly for march capacity when joining; do not assume all nine of their Expedition skills are added to the captain's rally.
  4. Save separate Bear/Terror/defense presets. Verify the captain's call and the GRT officer's formation directions instead of pushing the same joiner hero into every rally.

Avoid this mistake: Do not rank joiners by the Power number alone. Some sources disagree on exact stacking order and which buffs pair best: inspect battle logs or coordinate with R4/R5.

Checkpoint: Ready to join: first hero and skill correct / troop type and march size appropriate / preset saved / rally slots coordinated.

03 · Gen 2 — Zoe wheel and Marlin shard decisionOpen playbook ↓

A frequently suggested Gen 2 route separates acquisition channels: build Zoe primarily from Hero Roulette, while reserving general Mythic shards for Marlin when he is accessible and fits your lineup.

What to do

  1. Check whether Zoe is currently available on the roulette. If yes, inspect the actual reward milestones BEFORE spending gems. Multiple F2P posts discuss 70 or 120 spins, not a fixed guaranteed bargain.
  2. If your gem income is insufficient for a meaningful reward tier, skip that run; a partial spin spree is not automatically a good investment.
  3. For Marlin, confirm his acquisition method and the shards needed for your next meaningful star/skill milestone. A four-star target is common in discussion, but not a universal stopping rule.
  4. If you already have a useful Zoe/Marlin, preserving the hero through early Gen 3 may be cheaper than immediately rebuilding the entire team.

Avoid this mistake: Avoid pouring general shards into a roulette hero without calculating your free acquisition path; avoid starting Marlin if you cannot reach a usable threshold before your next planned replacement.

Checkpoint: Gen 2 plan: Zoe wheel budget documented / Marlin shard budget documented / new hero must replace an actual weak slot.

06 · Shards, stars and gear — where to stopOpen playbook ↓

The recurring F2P advice is to use rare shards as a concentrated project, not to create many half-finished heroes. “4★” is a frequent functional target, but the real threshold depends on unlocked skills, widgets and the next replacement.

What to do

  1. Separate free/hero-specific shards from GENERAL Mythic shards before upgrading. An easy-to-farm hero can still be valuable without consuming the latter.
  2. Pick one hard-to-acquire target and check the total shards to your next meaningful star level. Compare that cost with a future-generation alternative.
  3. Level skills relevant to your actual job: joiner first Expedition skill, or leader's active team skills; do not simply level every skill equally.
  4. Review gear and exclusive-gear availability before upgrading a hero on paper. A strong hero without practical widget access may be worse value for your account.

Avoid this mistake: Do not spread universal shards over a string of 1–2★ gold heroes. Do not treat 4★ as an unconditional rule or dismantle invested core gear without checking rules.

Checkpoint: One prioritized hero / required shards / skill milestone / widget availability / retirement plan.

Other growth paths

01 · Gen 1 — build a foundation, not a museumOpen playbook ↓

Jabel / Howard / Quinn can carry early content, while gathering and support heroes serve different jobs. The real prize is arriving at Gen 2 with gems and general Mythic shards intact.

What to do

  1. Use the free or easily acquired core for Arena and general content; upgrade only as far as your active content actually requires.
  2. Train Chenko, Yeonwoo and Amane for rally participation. Evaluate their first Expedition skills separately from their Arena usefulness.
  3. Do not spend precious general Mythic shards merely to finish Jabel: several F2P discussions say to save them for a later harder-to-acquire hero.
  4. Treat Saul's build-speed passive or other niche utilities as an optional economy investment, not a mandatory full hero project.

Avoid this mistake: Do not imitate a whale's Amadeus/Helga spending path. “Usable now” and “worth rare shards” are two different questions.

Checkpoint: Before Gen 2: one functional PvE/Arena lineup, a usable first-slot rally joiner, and a protected gem/shard reserve.

04 · Gen 3 — Petra now, or save for Gen 4?Open playbook ↓

This is a genuine community disagreement. Petra can strengthen a weak cavalry slot; saving may be smarter for an F2P account short on gems, shards or exclusive-gear access.

What to do

  1. Choose PETRA if your current cavalry hero is holding back your team, the roulette is available, and you can reach a meaningful star level without sacrificing essential reserves.
  2. Choose SAVE if gems are scarce, your existing cavalry does its job, or you are targeting a future roulette hero such as Gen 4 Rosa.
  3. If Petra is already trained, do not reset the decision merely because a new generation arrives. Compare actual account performance and the replacement cost.
  4. Treat Gen 4 hero forecasts as planning context only; check game availability and the current acquisition channel before setting a hard purchase date.

Avoid this mistake: Do not call Petra an unconditional must-pull; conversely do not call her an automatic skip. The most useful answer depends on your present cavalry and gem economics.

Checkpoint: Decision gate: cavalry gap / projected spins and gem reserve / next hero target / existing investment.

05 · Gems — VIP growth versus the Hero WheelOpen playbook ↓

The best use of gems is debated. An early VIP milestone can create recurring returns; roulette creates immediate hero power. Trying to buy both without a budget often gives neither.

What to do

  1. Open the actual VIP screen and write down the next daily reward or march-slot milestone. Community posts repeatedly mention VIP 7; some guides favor aiming higher. Verify the live client.
  2. Inspect Hero Roulette tier rewards and calculate your real cost. 120 spins and ~162k–165k gems are common community examples, not a price guarantee.
  3. Pick one primary objective for the next cycle: a VIP breakpoint, or one hero's wheel breakpoint. Protect basic mobility and defensive reserves.
  4. Re-evaluate after each wheel or season change rather than committing to “always roll” or “always VIP” forever.

Avoid this mistake: Avoid sunk-cost spinning just because you already did 20–30 spins; judge the NEXT reward relative to remaining gems. Do not present pack spending as a prerequisite.

Checkpoint: Budget sheet: gems on hand / target breakpoint / reserve left / alternative VIP benefit.

07 · Beyond Gen 3 — replace the weak SLOT, not the entire rosterOpen playbook ↓

Community long-term plans usually skip some generations. Gen 4 Rosa is often discussed as a roulette archery replacement, while Alcar/Margot have different shard or spending requirements. These are future options, not mandatory purchases.

What to do

  1. Write a three-column roster: Infantry / Cavalry / Archer, and mark which position is actually the bottleneck.
  2. When a generation arrives, compare the new hero against the current one AT ACHIEVABLE STARS, not against a theoretical 5★ showcase.
  3. Reserve general shards for heroes without easy roulette access, unless your role or available events justify another path.
  4. Keep one role-specific joiner supporter separate from the main offensive trio; a hero can remain useful as a joiner long after leaving your Arena team.

Avoid this mistake: Avoid the “every new generation = rebuild everything” trap. Do not treat a streamer's whale-level hero ranking as an F2P acquisition plan.

Checkpoint: Next 2 generations: one planned replacement, one planned skip, and a clear reason for both.

08 · The F2P weekly routine — steady rewards compoundOpen playbook ↓

Progress is not only about hero selection. Bear Trap, routine rallies, resource missions and attainable reward milestones are repeatedly recommended because they feed the next upgrade cycle.

What to do

  1. Daily: collect free rewards, use stamina on efficient content, complete feasible Alliance Help/research/building tasks, and check basic shop offers without impulse buying.
  2. Bear Trap and alliance content: join using the correct first-slot supporter and the officer's lineup; save march presets to participate efficiently.
  3. Before consuming speedups or Mythic shards: compare event calendars so one investment may satisfy multiple reward tracks. Never burn rare resources only to chase rank.
  4. Weekly: check the next building/troop unlock, shop currencies, saved gems and shards, and whether the alliance actually needs your role.

Avoid this mistake: Missing an event does not mean you must pay to catch up. A sustainable routine is better than exhausting your resources or ignoring real-life commitments.

Checkpoint: Weekly five-minute review: events completed / troop-tech bottleneck / gems / shards / next hero decision.
